Frequently Asked Questions
When should you give gifts?
Gift-giving is common around holidays, anniversaries, and special occasions. If you aren’t for spontaneous gift-giving, time your gift! Luckily, any of these gift ideas are sure to make a great Christmas gift.
How can I give a great gift?
There’s not a right way or a wrong way to give gifts. Etiquette doesn’t exactly outline a “to-do list.” So if you find yourself struggling, there are a few things you can remember.
Consider who this person is and their station in life. Take what you know and ask yourself, “How can they best use this? Will this help them in some way? Will they enjoy this?”
If that line of thinking resonates with you, consider the gift rule of four. Purchase something for the recipient to wear, read, something they want, or something they need. Those four categories are always great places to start.

Thoughtful Gifts for Stay-at-Home Moms
A thoughtful gift is created with someone in mind. You know their preferences, their stage of life, their dislikes, and their hobbies.
A thoughtful gift shows you truly know someone.
I hope these gift ideas inspire you to dig deep and truly consider your gift!
Specialty Treat
Specialty treats could be pastries, chocolates, snack mixes, or condiments. Jams, jellies, and other spreads also make the list.
Since treats are specific to someone’s tastes, these count as a thoughtful gift!
Flowers
Flowers are a beautiful way to encourage someone! You can even touch on the meanings behind certain flowers.

Gifts for Hobbies
Do you have an avid gardener in your life? Gift them some flower seeds and gardening gloves!
Do you know an aspiring artist? Gift them tools from their favorite art medium!
Family Time
One year for Mother’s Day, my husband organized a family trip to a local strawberry patch. Before picking strawberries, we camped out on the farm’s property, sat on our tailgate, and enjoyed a barbecue lunch provided by the farm.
All I wanted for Mother’s Day was to go strawberry picking with my kids, and my husband made that happen.
You can make this your own experience by organizing a girl’s night, a nice dinner, or a date night!
Quality Time Alone
I’m a firm believer that my “recharge time” shouldn’t be spent running errands for my family. That means when I get a chance to leave the house by myself, I’m not picking up clothes for my kids, going grocery shopping, or doing anything for my home.
I may stop by a bookstore and peruse for a bit. I may stop by a thrift store and pick out an outfit for me.
Taking time to recharge can look different for everyone. But I challenge you to give the busy mom in your lifetime away from her duties.
A Coffee Date with a Friend
This may be considered a useful gift. Or it could be the encouragement a mom needs!
Time with friends is a great way to give your mom a conversation without interruptions or snack requests.
Sentimental Gifts for Stay-at-Home Moms
Sentimental gifts make time stand still. They are an incredible way to capture a special moment or a thoughtful note for someone!
A sentimental gift may just be the perfect gift you could give.
Cards
Store bought or homemade, you can never go wrong with simply telling someone how much they mean to you!
Photos
With modern conveniences, there are so many ways you can capture a photo for someone!
You can frame it, get an artist to recreate it, have it printed onto a canvas – the list goes on!
Digital Picture Frame
Again – modern conveniences are great! Instead of a single photo, consider a digital picture frame!
Digital picture frames require a power source and an SD card with images already on the SD card. Some digital picture frames operate off WiFi and an email, so all you have to do is email the frame your pictures and they will be rotated into the slideshow!
A Homemade Recipe Book
My husband’s grandmother gifted all of the young women in the family a recipe book for Christmas one year. I was so thankful to get such a thoughtful gift! I look forward to cooking his family’s recipes for my children.

Practical Gifts for Stay-at-Home Moms
Practical gifts are gifts that a mom may use in everyday life. Including them as a gift gives her the added benefit of maybe splurging on something she wouldn’t purchase for herself otherwise!
Audible Subscription
I can’t speak to an audible subscription because I don’t have one.
However, I do know how popular listening to books is among stay-at-home moms.
Any audiobook subscription may be a popular gift. Look into your options!
Yoga Mat
Space for a mom to have a quiet moment may not happen very often. It’s up to her to make it happen!
You can help her do that by gifting a yoga mat. Yoga is also a great hobby to stretch out those muscles that may be overworked by holding babies and toddlers for extended periods.
A Good Book
Reading is so encouraging. So many studies show how it can improve mood, vocabulary, and is a better activity than mindlessly scrolling on your phone.
For my reading recommendations, find me on Instagram! I have a whole highlight bubble dedicated to books I recommend.
I also have a few books on my Resources page.
Instant Pot
In a world that doesn’t seem to slow down, modern appliances give stay-at-home moms the gift of time.
An instant pot is one of those conveniences!
A pressure cooker, slow cooker, or other more expensive kitchen appliance is a great gift idea.

Meal Subscription Service
There are several meal subscriptions you may already be familiar with. Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, and Home Chef, to name a few.
Meal subscription services may prove useful for postpartum moms with newborns and other children. They may also be useful during a busy season of life.
Other monthly subscriptions maybe something like a book of the month club, makeup club, or other literature. Do some research! There are so many different options besides food.
Tea Box
A tea box is a great addition to any kitchen. With modern conveniences, you can even customize them!
A practical gift that is sure to bless others. For a special treat, include some of her favorite teas already in the box!
A Coffee Mug
Gift Card or Gift Certificate
Gift cards are great ways to celebrate someone. And they’re often overlooked!
I think gift cards give you the best of both worlds. Gift cards let you tell someone you care about them, but gift cards let that person choose the gift to show that love.
I recommend an Amazon gift card to start. As a general marketplace, it doesn’t put too much pressure on anyone.
I always recommend personal gifts, though. So if you’re able, choose a gift card or gift certificate to their favorite coffee shop, boutique, or department store.
New Pajamas or a New Robe
Why not gift the gift of comfort? A lounge set makes such a practical gift! New pajamas are also great gifts for new moms.
Fuzzy Socks
Heating Pad
Electric Massager
The Additional Cost of Gifts
When you purchase your gift, don’t start there! Remember to pick up a nice bag or box, wrapping paper if necessary, and tissue paper. A ribbon and a card are also great things to add to a gift.
When giving the gift, consider your circumstances. Would this best be given in private? Over dinner? Is this a surprise, and thus okay to gift in front of others?
What gift would you start with?
Mom life for me has shifted in the last few years. In the beginning, I loved practical gifts. I had a newborn, and just being with my baby was enough for me.
But as my children grow older, I relish sentimental gifts. Their hands won’t ever be this tiny again. The quirky things they say they will quickly outgrow.
I love being able to preserve these memories so I can look back on them later! For us, pictures and cards are how we do that.
As I grow in my homemaking, I’m glad my husband has spoiled me with practical gifts, too! As my skills grow, so has our investment in tools that help me to grow.
For example, I have a slew of baking supplies, cooking utensils, and even a smoker now! We are a foodie family, and every practical kitchen gadget is something I’m thankful for.
I’ve also found I love coffee mugs and ways to practically store things in my home. Such an odd combination!
