How to Make a Brown Sugar Latte
In a coffee cup, mason jar, or espresso cup, add your light brown sugar. Pour your espresso shot directly over the sugar and stir immediately.
In another mason jar (or on rushed mornings, the same coffee cup!), add your milk and heavy cream. To your milk, add your brown sugar espresso.
Put a lid on your mason jar and shake. Enjoy!
For an iced latte, add a few ice cubes before shaking your espresso and milk together.
Such simple ingredients for every busy mom. A friend of mine introduced me to this recipe, and I’m so thankful she did!

Brown Sugar Latte Substitutions
Obviously, this is a quick way to fix a great treat. If you have time to invest in a labor of love, you can make a brown sugar syrup!
To a small saucepan, add your brown sugar and water. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Let it cool slightly and add your vanilla extract.
Let it cool completely and add one tablespoon to your coffee in lieu of brown sugar. Store in an airtight container in your fridge for about a week.
I use whole milk in my coffee, but coffee is such a versatile medium that you can truly use any milk of your choice. Soy milk, coconut milk, and oat milk are all popular options you can try.
You can also swap light brown sugar for dark brown sugar. The difference between the two lies in the amount of molasses used in the recipe. Light brown sugar usually contains half of the molasses that dark brown sugar does.
Dark brown sugar tends to be darker in color, resulting in a darker coffee or syrup. It also has a richer caramel flavor because it has more molasses. Be sure to consider all of that before you swap the ingredients!
While you can swap milk, you can also add ingredients. Ground cinnamon is such a warming, delicious spice. Consider adding some to a hot brown sugar latte in the fall! Yum!
If you don’t have an at-home espresso machine (I recommend this one. I have a machine by the same brand!), You can try this recipe with strong brewed coffee or even use your French press.
I’m not personally a fan of instant coffee, but that’s also an option!
A strong brewed coffee has a ratio of 1:17. That ratio is in grams, so I have understood that, converted to cups, that’s about 2 tablespoons of coffee to 6 ounces of water (a standard coffee mug). If you are brewing a full pot or a French press, that’s the sweet spot!
